Brief Method Summary
Sulfate is precipitated as barium sulfate in a hydrochloric acid medium by the addition of barium chloride. Cover and let stand on steam bath for 12 hours to precipitate all sulfate as barium sulfate. Filter, wash barium sulfate precipitate with hot water until Cl-free, dry, ignite over burner, and weigh.
