Brief Method Summary
|
A measured amount of sample is treated with a phenolphthalein colorimetric indicator and then titrated with a strong acid or base to pH 8.3. The amount of titrant used is directly proportional to the milliequivalents od acid or base in the sample. These titrations also cab be performed using a pH meter instead of a colorimetric indicator. |

Sample Handling
|
Collect samples in clean plastic or glass bottles. Fill completely and cap tightly. Avoid agitation and prolonged exposure to air. Samples should be analyzed as soon as possible after collection but can be stored at least 24 hours by cooling to 4 deg. C or below. Warm to room temperature before analyzing. |
